Catch your flight to Semera. Today your Danakil expedition starts by driving 180kms to Afdera and on to Dodom the base of Ertale. The drive will take you through rugged moon-landscapes, characterized by volcanic rifts and faults and young black lava flows. In Afdera we will collect our local guide, camels and policemen and driving 90kms to Dodmo to set camp at the base of the volcano. After dinner we will climb to the caldera to watch the volcano. Then we will enjoy the breathtaking site of bubbling volcano overnight.
Meals: Breakfast/ Lunch/ Dinner.
Overnight: Camping at Ertale.
We’ll meet at 4 p.m. at our hotel in Luzern (Lucerne) for a “Welcome to Switzerland” meeting. Then we’ll take a meandering evening walk through Switzerland’s most charming lakeside town, and get acquainted with one another over dinner together. Sleep in Luzern (2 nights). No bus. Walking: light.
